TEX-LOCK AND MOKUMONO: STYLISH EYE FOR SECURITY

Tex Lock Mate lock

E-bikes, like Mokumono's, exert a great attraction on the thieves' guild. Last year, as many as 90,000 e-bikes were stolen in the Netherlands, especially in big cities! So preventing your bike from being stolen is priority number one for every e-bike owner. For this reason, we chose the solid ART2 approved Abus ring lock in combination with the tex-lock mate padlock for the Mokumono Polder. The choice for tex-lock was made quite deliberately.

The advantages of tex-lock

- Different types of high-tech fibers each have a specific function.

- The outer layer is water and dirt repellent and adds color to the product.

- The following layers are resistant to cutting, sawing and high temperatures.

- The core of the textile rope is made of special hardened stainless steel.

- The weight of the textile lock is a fraction of traditional chain locks.

Dragging locks

That you should always secure the Mokumono Polder to something when you're not riding it is a no-brainer. But lugging around a three-kilo chain lock is no fun and absolutely inconvenient. That was exactly the motivation for German designer and avid cyclist Alexandra Baum to develop a bike lock made of high-tech fibers together with fellow designer Suse Brand. Baum says on the tex-lock website, "When we launched tex-lock, we knew we were entering completely new territory. After all, a bicycle lock made of 'fabric' had never existed before and initially seemed unthinkable. But high-quality fibers have many useful properties: they are flexible, light and very robust. This made it possible to develop a product that is fundamentally different from bicycle locks made of pure steel."

Innovative use of materials

Clever design, in-depth knowledge in material science and entrepreneurial skills - these are the positive qualifications tex-lock received when it introduced its first tex-lock model in 2017. "Tex-lock is a newcomer eclipsing the old giants of the industry," concluded u-institut, a leading innovation institute in Germany. At Mokumono, too, we were immediately excited. And not only because of the quality of this textile lock. Like Mokumono, tex-lock is averse to tradition, breaks new ground and thus comes up with surprising solutions to the challenges of our time. The tex-lock bicycle lock uniquely combines security, comfort and style. And not unimportantly, the lock's flexibility makes it easy to store in the space-trunk of the Mokumono Polder.

Made in Leipzig

What tex-lock also has in common with Mokumono is that the German company keeps production completely in-house. The locks are manufactured in its own factory in Leipzig and distributed from there. Regionality and sustainability are important principles for tex-lock, and so the company fits in perfectly with our goal of introducing a 100% European e-bike to the market with the Mokumono Polder. As far as we are concerned, this applies not only to the bike itself but certainly also to all accessories. The innovative textile locks from tex-lock are a perfect match for our bikes.
